Modern studio pottery
1960’s American studio pottery lidded jar decorated with elephants attributed to Ann Adair Voulkos.
Ann Adair Voulkos is a San Francisco Bay Area ceramic artist and wife of American studio pottery master Peter Voulkos. Ann was a well known potter before marrying Voulkos and was known for decorating her art with elephants.
This work was purchased from the estate of a San Francisco art collector where several other works by Ann were offered. This work appears to be unsigned. It does retain a fragment of a paper label on the bottom.
This work shows the influences of Peter Voulkos and his contributions to abstract expressionist art and ceramics. It is possible that it is a collaboration of the two artists. (Peter and Ann).
