Oscar Bluemner was an important early American modernist artist active mainly in New York and Massachusetts. Bluemner was a prolific artist constantly sketching and considering potential subjects, often writing on the backs and fronts of sketches often noting the colors he saw.
This work is a charcoal drawing on paper depicting Soho, NY when it was a rural area, showing houses and trees. It is marked ‘Soho – Aug 20-18’.
Measures 4.25″ x 6″ sight size, and 15″ x 16″ x 1.5″ overall including mat and framing.
